Our latest ‘One Year On’ feature is with International Business and Success Coach, Debra Santangelo. Bursting with energy and enthusiasm for life, Debra helps her clients reach their full potential with her Coaching and Mentoring packages, to help them fulfil their dreams and live the life they’ve always wanted.
So what does the business entail? We chatted with Debra to learn more about her entrepreneurial journey from the last year.
What is the nature of your business and why did you choose a Start Up Loan over other types of finance?
I am a Business and Success Coach for online entrepreneurs. I teach the systems and strategies required to set up a profitable, freedom based business online that allows you to work from anywhere in the world while making a huge impact. I show entrepreneurs how to leverage social media, especially Facebook and Instagram, in a way that attracts ideal clients consistently and with ease.
I chose a Transmit Start Up Loan over other kinds of finance because it was very tailored towards entrepreneurs and therefore I felt like my business idea was completely understood and supported. I was provided with a high level of support from the very beginning of the process and the interest rate is also very low compared to other options available.
What has your business achieved over the last year? What is your favourite success story to date?
Over the last year I have built a strong presence online and am now recognised as an expert in my industry. The loan allowed me to have a professional website designed, to invest in marketing to get my business off to the best start possible and also to hire my own Success Coach which I found integral to my fast growth in the industry.
My favourite success story so far was being asked to take part in two online summits featuring some of the most successful coaches in my industry. I was interviewed via video call and the two interviews were sent out to thousands of people across the world. I feel very strongly about reaching as many people as possible with my message and therefore this meant a lot to me.
What have you learnt from the first year in business? Is there anything you would do differently?
This first year in business has taught me that it is very important to have structures in place that give me the freedom to do what I truly love in my business. I became a coach so that I could help as many people as possible become financially independent and, for me, the most effective way to do this is by showing up and being visible online. When I was spending a lot of time doing 'busy work' behind the scenes like creating marketing graphics and replying to emails I wasn't allowing myself enough time to actually show up and get my message out to my ideal clients.
I now have automated systems in place that allow me the time to show up and do the coaching that I love while consistently attracting leads and potential clients. If I were starting again I would definitely make sure that I was more visible online from the very start.
Would you recommend a Start Up Loan from Transmit Start-Ups to other businesses? How beneficial was the free business support?
I would definitely recommend a Start Up Loan from Transmit Start-Ups to other businesses. It was a very easy, straight forward process and I was provided with a high level of support throughout. The free business advice was very beneficial to me and helped me a lot, especially in the initial planning process.
If you could give one tip to a new entrepreneur, what would it be?
If I could give one tip to a new entrepreneur it would be to be to be visible from day one and not to get too overwhelmed with the processes. You will learn along the way so don't let your fear of not yet being an official 'expert' in your field stop you from attracting your ideal clients.
