5 Inspirational Films for Entrepreneurs

Five Films to Keep You Going When Business Is Tough

From time to time as an entrepreneur, you can feel downtrodden, hopeless and lacking in motivation. But this doesn’t mean that it’s time to give up – it just means it’s time for a change of scene or a bit of inspiration that will amp up those motivation levels.

In a survey conducted by the Enterprise Research Centre, 59% of entrepreneurs were motivated to start a business due to seeking a better opportunity than their previous place of work. When up against the challenges of being an entrepreneur, it’s easy to forget these motivations and slip into the attitude of ‘it would be easier to be employed’, but don’t give up your dreams just for an easier life.

Taking a bit of downtime to ease the mind and clear the fog can help to inspire you through the temporary lows that come with running a business. Watching something motivational is a great way to stay focused whilst relaxing, so without further ado, here is our pick of films that will energise your business-mind:

Office Space (1999)
Being employed by an abusive, greedy and demotivating boss causes three workers who hate the 9 to 5 life to rebel and go out on their own. This film is sure to trigger some not-so-fond memories of your previous 9 to 5 and remind you why you left to become your own boss in the first place – overall, it’s sure to grant the motivation needed to pick yourself up and carry on.

The Aviator (2004)
This is an incredible biographical flick starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes, an American businessman, investor, film director, philanthropist and record-setting pilot who was known as one of the most financially successful people in the entire world. The film explores the personal and business struggles that Hughes faced throughout his creative and inspiring entrepreneurial career.

Films for entrepreneurs

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Although the leading role in this film goes on to become a successful salesman for a corporate financial firm, as opposed to showcasing the journey of an entrepreneur, Chris Gardner – the films muse – did take his skills on to start his own company in future years. This real-life, uplifting journey of working hard through unimaginably tough times is inspiring to all.

The Social Network (2010)
This is the story of Mark Zuckerberg and the ubiquitous rise of his start-up, Facebook. The ability to take a dream and make it a reality is reflected throughout and although the authenticity of this film has been questioned over recent years, it has a lot for an entrepreneur to take away. Through difficult challenges of being sued, to a co-founder being pushed out of the business, this entrepreneur carried on soaring to the top.

The Rainmaker (1997)
This film depicts the story of a young law school graduate who becomes the underdog when he takes on a fraudulent and corrupt insurance company to fight for the life of a boy with leukaemia. Determination, responsibility, emotion and ethics are just some of the themes reflected throughout and are sure to give you a boost in motivation.

A lack in motivation and feeling uninspired is common during an entrepreneurial journey, but keep in mind that it is temporary and that you will rise again if you have the determination required.
